Privacy Policy

We built WordCountCounter.com on a single principle: your writing belongs to you. This policy explains exactly what happens — and what doesn't happen — with your text.

Privacy-First by Design Last updated: 23 March 2026 Effective: 23 March 2026
01

Overview — The Short Version

The bottom line: The text you type or paste into WordCountCounter.com is processed entirely inside your browser. It is never transmitted to our servers, never stored in a database, never read by us or any third party, and never used for any purpose beyond producing the statistics you see on screen.

WordCountCounter.com is a client-side web application. All computation — word counting, character counting, readability analysis, keyword density, and document parsing — runs as JavaScript code executing on your own device. When you close the browser tab, everything is gone.

This policy covers the WordCountCounter.com website accessible at wordcountcounter.com and any subdomains operated by us. It does not cover third-party websites linked from this site.

02

Your Text & Document Processing

Text you type or paste lives only in the browser's memory for the duration of your session. It is not sent over a network connection to any server — not ours, not anyone's.

Files you upload (.docx, .pdf, .txt) are parsed using open-source JavaScript libraries (mammoth.js for Word documents and PDF.js for PDFs) that run entirely in your browser. Your file is never uploaded to a remote server. The file data is read from your local device, processed in memory, and immediately discarded when you navigate away or clear the editor.

You can verify this claim yourself by opening your browser's Network tab in Developer Tools while using the tool. You will see no outbound requests carrying your text content.

03

Data We Collect

We collect minimal data, and none of it is linked to your text content:

  • Server access logs: When your browser requests a page, our web host (Hostinger / Bluehost) automatically records standard HTTP server log data including your anonymised IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, and the date and time of the request. This is standard infrastructure logging, not personal profiling. Logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days and then deleted.
  • Aggregate analytics: We may use privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics to understand overall page traffic (e.g., page views, country-level geography). This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify individual users.
  • Contact form submissions: If you contact us via the Contact page, we collect the name, email address, and message you provide solely to respond to your enquiry. This information is not shared with third parties and is deleted within 90 days of resolution.
04

Analytics & Usage Data

We do not use Google Analytics or other surveillance-style analytics platforms that build individual user profiles. If we add any analytics service in the future, we will update this policy and ensure it is compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable privacy regulations before deployment.

Any analytics we use collect only aggregated, non-personal data such as the total number of visits to a page, the country of origin at a regional level, and which pages are most visited. No persistent cross-site tracking identifiers are set.

05

Advertising

WordCountCounter.com is supported by a single, clearly labelled native advertisement displayed at the bottom of the tool. This ad is styled to match the site's aesthetic and is always marked "Sponsored".

If we use a third-party advertising network in the future, that network may set cookies or use similar tracking technologies subject to their own privacy policy. We will clearly disclose any such arrangement in this section and will not participate in behavioural advertising networks that build profiles from your text content or browsing within this tool.

We will never allow advertisers to access, analyse, or profit from the content you type into this tool.

06

Cookies & Local Storage

WordCountCounter.com does not set any first-party cookies for tracking purposes.

The tool may use browser localStorage to temporarily store your preference settings (such as your last-used writing mode) within your own browser. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us or any third party. You can clear it at any time via your browser's "Clear Site Data" function.

Third-party resources loaded on the page (such as Google Fonts for typography) do not set cookies, but do transmit your IP address to Google's servers when fonts are loaded — this is required to serve the font files. Per Google's documentation, the Fonts API is designed to limit end-user data collection. We recommend self-hosting these fonts for full GDPR compliance and are actively evaluating this change.

07

Third-Party Services

The following third-party resources are loaded when you visit WordCountCounter.com:

  • Google Fonts — loads the Syne, DM Sans, and JetBrains Mono typefaces. No cookies are set, but Google's servers receive your IP address when fonts load. We are actively evaluating self-hosting to eliminate this third-party data transfer entirely.
  • Cloudflare CDN — mammoth.js and PDF.js are loaded from cdnjs.cloudflare.com. Cloudflare's standard CDN privacy policy applies to these requests.
  • Web hosting provider — our pages are served from Hostinger / Bluehost infrastructure. Standard server-side logging applies as described in Section 03.

None of these services receive your text content. They only see the standard HTTP request your browser sends when loading any web page.

08

Children's Privacy

WordCountCounter.com is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The tool is a general-purpose writing utility appropriate for all ages. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through our contact form, please contact us immediately and we will delete it promptly.

09

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding any personal data we hold:

  • Right of access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to erasure — request deletion of personal data we hold.
  • Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to object — object to certain types of processing.
  • CCPA rights — California residents may request disclosure or deletion of any personal information under the California Consumer Privacy Act.
  • EAA / EU Accessibility rights — If you are an EU resident, the European Accessibility Act (Directive 2019/882), enforceable from June 28, 2025, gives you the right to accessible digital services. WordCountCounter.com is built to WCAG 2.2 AA standards in support of these requirements.

Because we collect minimal data, fulfilling most requests means confirming we have nothing to provide. To exercise any right, contact us at the address below. Response timelines: GDPR requests — within 30 calendar days (extendable by two months for complex cases); CCPA requests — within 45 calendar days (extendable by a further 45 days, maximum 90 days total, with notice to you).

10

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes — such as the introduction of a new advertising network or analytics service — we will provide prominent notice on the homepage for at least 14 days.

Continued use of WordCountCounter.com after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
